Professor Chen Junhu from Sun Yat-sen University demonstrates innovative seawater hydrogen production technology to help businesses achieve net-zero 2024/03/27
National Sun Yat-Sen University Prof. Chen, Chun-Hu recognizes the adaptation potential of hydrogen and has dedicated years of research to successfully develop the hydrogen-from-seawater technology.
He has developed a new water-electrolyzing catalyst that is highly resistant to seawater corrosion and does not need precious metals. It can also be applied on to large surfaces through a simple Roll-to-Roll process that does not require vacuum or very specific conditions. As the result, the cost can be as low as 1/1000 of the conventional catalyst.
In conjunction with his proprietary first-gen prototype machine, hydrogen of 97% purity can be produced, and above 99% purity can be reached after dehydration. This technology may provide additional benefits to the salt industry as it can make hydrogen and salt at the same time, since the byproduct brine is used to make salt.
